WRDD works in rural potable water supply and irrigation development activities of REST intervention areas.

Strategies

• Community participatory project planning, implementation, and evaluation with out discrimination of gender.
• Improve the Scio- economic situation of the people using different strategies, which are technically and economically affordable water supply and irrigation development technologies.
• Perform integrated water supply and irrigation development projects and establish grass root institutions in the intervention area.

I. Rural water supply development

     Objective

• Improve the quality, quantity and sanitation of rural drinking water supplies.
• Ensure availability of clean, safe and adequate water supply beneficiaries.
• Reduce the work load of woman and children, and minimize the cultural problems faced.
• Transfer appropriate technology and ensure sustainability of water supply systems.
• Provide community based sustainable solution and improve health status of the community.

II. Irrigation Development

Objective

• Reduce farmers dependence on rain feed agriculture and increase productive through surface and ground water development works
• Improve food security and sustainable development for poorest rural households in the most drought prone and environmentally degraded areas. 
• Transfer affordable, easily applicable and appropriate irrigation technology and ensure sustainability of irrigation by developing the capacity of water user association and benefices.
• Enhance irrigation development and improve Scio- economic situation of the people.
• Integrate irrigation development with environmental rehabilitation, water shade conservation cooperatives market access.
• Establish water user association and capacitate with training of efficient water management, different agronomic practices and conflict resolution methods.
• Hand over functional irrigation system to the wereda water resources and agricultural office.
